Gutter Installation in Santa Rosa & the North Bay
Gutters sit alongside roofing and repairs on everything Rea Roofing advertises, and they belong there — in a climate that delivers most of its rainfall in a handful of concentrated winter months, where the water goes when it leaves the roof matters as much as the roof itself. Rea Roofing Inc. installs and replaces gutters and downspouts throughout the North Bay.
Sizing, hanging and where the water actually goes
Undersized or badly hung gutters overflow at exactly the wrong moment. That water lands at the foundation, saturates the crawlspace, runs behind the fascia, and rots the very board the gutter is hanging on. It is a cheap system to get right and an expensive one to ignore.
Gutter size and downspout count follow from the roof area draining into them and how hard it rains. A long, steep plane feeding one small downspout will overflow in a heavy December storm no matter how clean it is. We size the system to the roof, not to whatever was there before.
Hanging matters just as much. Consistent slope to the outlets, hangers at the right spacing, and fascia that is sound enough to carry a full gutter — because a gutter full of water and debris is heavy. Where fascia is already soft from years of overflow, that gets addressed rather than screwed through.
Then the discharge. Downspouts that dump against the house are a foundation problem waiting to happen; getting water out and away from the building is the entire point. On sloped North Bay lots, that often means extending or redirecting the discharge rather than simply replacing what was there.
Our Gutter Process
- 01
Measure and assess
Roof areas, existing fascia condition, current downspout locations and where water is currently causing trouble.
- 02
Size the system
Gutter profile and downspout count chosen for the drainage area and North Bay storm intensity, with color selected to the trim.
- 03
Fascia repair where needed
Soft or rotted fascia is corrected before new gutters are hung on it.
- 04
Install and slope
Seamless gutter run and hung to a consistent slope, outlets and downspouts fitted, discharge routed away from the building.
- 05
Test with water
Where practical the system is run with water, so the slope and the outlets are proven rather than assumed.
Why gutters are part of the roof
Installed with the re-roof
Doing gutters at the same time as a re-roof means the drip edge, fascia and gutter line are detailed as one system.
Sized for the storm, not the catalog
Capacity is calculated from your roof area so the gutters cope with the heaviest part of the wet season.
Protects fascia and foundation
Correct discharge keeps water off the wood it hangs from and away from the base of the house.
Debris reality check
Under heavy tree canopy we will tell you what maintenance the system will genuinely need instead of promising it is maintenance-free.

Gutters questions
Do you install gutters without doing the roof?
Yes. Gutters and downspouts are a standalone service — though if the roof is close to replacement it is usually worth doing both together so the edge details line up.
Are gutter guards worth it?
It depends on your trees. Under redwoods and pines, needles defeat most guard designs and the system still needs clearing. Under broadleaf trees, guards can genuinely reduce how often you are up a ladder. We will give you an honest answer for your property rather than a blanket yes.
My gutters overflow even when they're clean — why?
Almost always capacity or slope. Too few downspouts for the roof area, an undersized profile, or a run that has settled and no longer drains toward the outlet. Adding a downspout is often the whole fix.
