Shingle & Asphalt Roofing in Santa Rosa, CA
Composition shingle covers more North Bay roofs than everything else combined, and for good reason — architectural shingle is cost-effective, comes in Class A fire-rated assemblies, and suits the great majority of houses in Santa Rosa, Petaluma, Rohnert Park, Windsor and Novato. Rea Roofing Inc. installs and replaces shingle roofs across all four counties.

What separates a good shingle roof from a cheap one
The catch with shingle is that it is the easiest roof to install badly. Nailing height and nail count, starter course, valley method, the metal at the eaves and rakes, and how the roof terminates at a wall are all places where a cheap installation looks identical from the street on day one and behaves very differently in year six.
Nails first. Architectural shingle has a specific nailing zone, and fasteners driven high, overdriven, or short of the required count will hold in calm weather and let go in the first real storm off the coast. It is invisible once the next course is on, which is exactly why it gets skipped.
Then the metal. A proper shingle roof has drip edge at the eaves, rake metal, valley metal, and step flashing with counter-flashing where the roof meets a wall or chimney. The shortcut version substitutes sealant and shingle-over-valley detailing, and every one of those becomes a leak call eventually.
Finally, ventilation. Shingle bakes from underneath when an attic cannot breathe, and a great many North Bay roofs that failed early were simply cooked from the inside. We balance intake at the eaves against exhaust at the ridge as part of the re-roof rather than treating it as an upsell.

Why choose composition shingle
Class A assemblies available
Architectural shingle is available in Class A fire-rated assemblies, which is what most North Bay jurisdictions expect in and near WUI zones.
The best value per square foot
For most tract and mid-century homes across Sonoma County, shingle delivers the longest service life per dollar spent.
Repairable and matchable
A shingle roof can be repaired in sections years later, which is not true of every roof covering.
Fast on the schedule
A straightforward residential shingle re-roof is one of the quickest ways to get a failing roof off your house before the wet season.

Shingle / Asphalt questions
How long does a composition shingle roof last in the North Bay?
Service life depends far more on installation, ventilation and sun exposure than on the shingle brand. South and west slopes with unbalanced attic ventilation age noticeably faster than north slopes on the same house — which is why a roof can look fine from the street and be finished on one side.
Can you match my existing shingles for a repair?
Often, though color lots shift and older discontinued products can be difficult to match exactly. We will tell you honestly whether the repair will blend or be visible before we do it.
Do you install shingle over a low-slope section?
No. Shingle has a minimum slope requirement and installing it flatter than that will leak no matter how well it is nailed. On split-pitch North Bay homes we shingle the pitched area and use a membrane on the low-slope section, with a proper transition detail.
